Mount Zero's Guide to Easter Eats

March 15, 2016

Tivoli Road Bakery's famous hot cross buns

Last year we kicked off a bit of a tradition when we decided to create a blog post about our amazing bakery customers and the delicious Easter eats they produce. It's a little known fact that we supply some of the finest bakeries throughout Victoria and to a lesser extent, Australia. Our extra virgin olive oils, Pink Lake gourmet salt and Australian olives are often key ingredients in bread, buns, cakes and various other bakes.

This year we are featuring a selection of the amazing Easter eats available from our bakery customers....

Tivoli Road Bakery - 3 Tivoli Road, South Yarra
Awarded by The Age Epicure as Melbourne's best hot cross bun this year, the Tivoli Road HCB is a beauty. The recipe is made up of St David Dairy butter & milk, Happy Fruit fruit, dried peel, and orange puree. They are semi-sourdough with a little yeast.

Flinders Sourdough - 58 Cook Street, Flinders
The certified organic and naturally leavened sourdough hot cross buns from Flinders Sourdough are packed full of local fruit and freshly ground spices. They also do a choc cross bun with organic dark chocolate, cardamom spice and a splash of our very own Mount Zero organic extra virgin olive oil!

Rustica Sourdough - 402 Brunswick Street, Fitzroy

The team at Rustica are keeping their cards very close to their chest on the exact ingredients of their secret bun recipe but we can say it's a blend of spices and our fruit mix that's soaked in a spiced sugar syrup before baking. Combined with their slow and considered processes, the results are a full flavoured, super soft and juicy bun.

A Local Baker, 83 Burns Street, St Andrews

Ingredients include locally grown organic wheat flour, salt, sugar and an organic sourdough starter. These hot cross buns are yeast free, oil free, dairy free and free from ascorbic acid using organic spices and Victorian grown dried fruit free from sulphur.
