Our favourite 5 warming Winter soups and braises

April 20, 2017

It mightn't be everyone's favourite season but we love it, slow cooked  lentil dishes and heart warming  soups....yum!
We've put together a list of our favourite winter warmers so that you too can enjoy the season and the tastes it offers.

All recipes have the Mount Zero products that they feature at the bottom of the recipe page, so scroll down and click through..

beluga black lentil balls with veggie ragu

The deep black hue of our Beluga Black Lentils are stunning to the eye but it's the flavour, texture and goodness that really matters. Rohan Anderson from Whole Larder Love created this great recipe as a way to get his kids to eat more veggies! Ramp up the chilli if it's an adults only meal or tone it down for the little ones

mount zero verjus baked fish hot pot

A one pot winter warmer celebrating nourishing seafood and vegetables was gifted to us by Melbourne based recipe developer/food blogger Cle-ann Stampolidis. The balance of the dish comes from our manzanilla olives (saltiness) and verjus (sweetness). Our verjus is made with unripe chardonnay grapes and adds a zingy acidity to any dish (tip - it makes a great alcohol free drink when mixed with water!).

cauliflower, leek & biodynamic pulse & grain soup

Hearty soups are a non-negotiable at Mount Zero HQ during the cooler months and that doesn't necessarily mean that meat is part of the equation. Our Biodynamic soup mix has a great combination of hearty grains (pearl barley & farro) and lentils (french green and persian red) and is a great base for stews, casseroles and soups.

twice cooked duck leg with mount zero lentils

There's something very French Provincial about this recipe from Yarra Valley winery, Innocent Bystander - slow cooked duck with our Australian version of the Puy lentil. One thing is for certain, slow cooked poultry and lentils will warm the cockles.

mount zero persian red lentil stew

Our Persian Red Lentils are a great choice for quick winter meals as they do not require soaking and only take 20mins to cook. This fragrant and well spiced stew from Echo at www.honeywise.co  is nourishing and satiating - exactly what we need during the winter months.
